Cajamarca is the only major city
in the Northern Andes. It has
a rich historical background.
The battle of Cajamarca took
place here in 1532, when Spanish conquistador Pizarro captured Atahualpa. Even though
Atahualpa’s men offered the Spanish the golden treasure
they had requested (a room full
of gold), Pizarro never intended
to set Atahualpa free and had
him executed.
