Other than a traditional witch market, Chiclayo is of little
interest for tourists. But its surroundings
are all the more exciting. Sipán is one of the most important archeological sites in the country.
In 1987, the “Lord of Sipán” burial grounds were discovered here.
Its relics are now exhibited at the Royal Tombs of Sipán museum.
In the so-called valley of pyramids near Túcume, 26 enormous adobe pyramids have been discovered during a vast archeological expedition led by Thor Heyerdahl.
In Batán Grande, more pyramids were found, as well as the remains of the famous lord of Sipán, buried with treasures, also exhibited in the National Museum of Sipán
