This mountain climber Mecca is known as the Switzerland of the South because of its location
in the Santa Valley against the backdrop of Cordillera Blanca
and Negra (The White and Black Andes). It is a popular base for expeditions, or for any kind of mountain hike. The Cordillera Blanca is home to the HuascarĂ¡n, the highest peak in the country (6768 m).
Taking several day trips
is recommended, before engaging your body into more strenuous hikes. This will also allow you to
get used to the thin mountain air. You can discover relics of ancient cultures; admire beautiful mountain lakes or bromeliads in their natural habitat. Bromeliads, like the Puya Raimondi that grows up to 12 meter, and has the highest inflorescence
in the world.
