as the “city of churches”.
During the Holy Week, visitors
from all over the country attend
the famous Easter processions.
The city is also famous for the vicuña nature reserve nearby. Ayacucho is one of the poorest cities in the nation. Sadly,
it was also one of the cities
that were most affected by‘The Shining path’ in the eighties and nineties.
